Development toward the finalisation of my website and self promotion…

After booking the studio for a practice session i decided to try again with the recording of the drums…

I personally liked the sound of the home made drum kit yet the quality is slightly better from this session.

I have decided to use the home made kit for one of the songs on the ep and the studio recordings for the other two tracks

The No Sweat Ep is about writing music using nostalgia… In my dissertation I covered how we process music internally using nostalgia and presumptions. Growing up I was surrounded by Rock & Metal music… In my teens I followed bands like Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Skunk Anansie, Metallica, Nickelback, P.O.D, and Korn…

I still havnt found a sound of my own yet in regards to performing regularly on the open mic and gigging circuit, I chose to try out my luck and put together a garage band.

Ultimately it was about making a performance of a few acoustic songs have a strong presence on stage… Why not plug the guitars in and turn them up!!

I tried on 3 separate occasions to record using the University studios and came across problems with the desk and configuration i decided to be as resourceful as possible and record the drums at RecordOne Studios with Elliot Paffy. (A fellow student on our course also)

We had to build this drum kit out of two separate kits as there was broken pieces and issues with each set…

The drum kits had been sat in a shed exposed to the weather for nearly two years… The sound was ‘trashy’ and raw… I Personallly liked this texture on the sound as i wanted the ep to sound like it had been recorded with grungy rock metal in mind. This cymbal above was far too loud so the bits of black tape were to try and create a dampener or something to absorb the really loud vibrations! … Yes it worked!

The Mr. Fitz project is to be displayed on my website on an animated video of which is still under construction…

This is the session where I recorded my own piano at home using two pencil microphones (Rode M5) . This piano is tuned into A-432hz and so is all of the Mr. Fitz music to have a more harmonious physical effect on the listener.

See these links for more information on 432hz

This ‘About’ page on my website is probably the most important page given that the idea for this website is to be an online cv / portfolio of works to promote myself and skills to the industry & further education. I tried to keep it simple as possible only talking about the important stuff but as time went on and I kept re-visiting my website I realised that I personally probably wouldn’t want to read all of that text if i had been forwarded to this site… I decided to try and cut out as many words as possible and let the images do some of the talking instead of backing up a long winded story… Please feel free to browse the site at

For blog purposes here are some screen shots of the developed ‘About’ page…

Nic Finch from Chameleonic came in and gave a couple of guest lectures on self branding and media.

I showed him my website and explained the idea of giving a business card that was black, with gold scripted font that had my name written on it and on the reverse side would just be the website address.

He discussed about printing techniques and explained I may come across some problems. I was explaining to Nic that Iv never built a website before and we discussed some options for the branding or the website logo.  tonysignature

Having my own signature as my logo keeps the branding personal, I am building a website to promote my creative works but more to promote my voluntary and paid work experience within the creative arts industries.

After agreeing with the handwritten signature he  helped me with getting it to be a suitable image for the web… Massive Thanks Nic!! 🙂

Toybox Studios is owned by Ali Chant, an Engineer and Producer based in Bristol. I particularly like this website’s simple and professional finish. The information of his works and discography is straight forward, precise and clear. Each page is linked to the navigation bar across the top of the page and the white background theme is through out.  Ali Chant is a renowned artist having worked with many successful musicians, his show reel is something nice and I do like how Ali Chant has a separate website for himself and the studio business, (

This is like my destiny sessions website and platform idea which is still actually live… It consists of an email address/ domain name, youtube and Facebook pages. I guess one way to expand on that is to have twitter or instagram and keep on blogging about our projects!! (upcoming DS project, Falling Under)

Amy Wadge is a grammy nominated songwriter living in wales. Her website is also very clear, simple and interesting. ……. tbc

Danielle Lewis has successfully gained a place on this years BBC Horizons project. Her sweet acoustic songs and contemporary singing came to my attention through Facebook. I decided to check her out and easily found her artist website. I noticed that the template she uses is the same template I have chosen to use on Her website is easy to navigate and it is clear to see that she is a regular gigging musician. Personally i am not at that stage yet, i would like to curate a sound, produce an ep and then hit the road or scene with a product. Danielle’s website home page scrolls down through only some of her pages consecutively, I can see this is a personal alteration to the we site template that i have taken an interest in.

This is my website still under development, Slightly different from the earlier posts in the way i have subtracted some of my pages at the top of the navigation bar. Im really on a mission to make my website as simple and effective as possible. I am waiting to have a photo shoot for the website and also design some graphics as my name logo. I look forward to the next session with Nic Finch, he has already helped me with some vector imaging which was really nice. (DS) –

I can probably keep the recording studio projects on this platform but still included it in the main produced website. The pseudonym Destiny Sessions will show the produced works with other singers and songwriters in the studio, 99% of the time are in partnership with Alex Heywood (engineer at DS).

The best way to make myself and creative services presentable and accessible to people is to develop a website/ portfolio. I have never built a website before, I am my own worst critic and the idea of making yourself a brand is slightly un-easing. This task has proven to be challenging but also fun.

I chose to develop my first ideas and i presented this site to my tutors…

After some tutor feedback and a new website recommendation I began to work on for a more professional finish. I think this above idea still portrays a slight juvenile aesthetic. I decided to invest in myself and bought the domain name and this is when was created.

After the inspiring lectures with Stefhan Caddick &  Nic Finch on branding and creating logos i began to experiment with some ideas,

Screen Shot 2016-02-21 at 18.08.27.png

….. I decided i wanted to keep the name and branding with a personal feel so i experimented with simply writing my name…

I thought of having a black business card with my name on one side and my website on the other  side…

”Black card with gold thin border, swirls at the corners and the above signature with the small arrow”

After a little experimentation it was suggested to me that i chose a more contemporary colour, one that was bright, eye-catching and appealing to younger people…

Next steps…

I have spoken to two students on the photography and documentary film course and they have agreed to take some quality shots for the website! I have had a play around with some ideas, This is the website on sunday 21st feburary, 18:19pm. Still under construction…

Current references I had before the designing of my website was I do like how his website is set out. Its minimalist and professional looking with a navigation bar across the top and separate pages as the navbar links.

I wanted to get stuck in and start building my new website so I decided to go with a more contemporary template on with everything linked to the navigation bar headings and links. Also existing in the constant scroll flowing down my website, the main background is slightly  burgundy, each subheading has a black background or uploaded background picture… i can also add media anywhere i choose.

For me CSM has been an journey of expressing all of my musical skills, experimenting outside of the box and breaking down some of the ethical and creative thought processes behind making music and inclusively making a statement as an artist. As much as I have enjoyed every session on the course graduation draws near and I have recently been under a lot of stress and confusion as to what it is I am actually doing as an artist and where do I go from here, I haven’t actually found my sound yet! Its a positive reflection that I was auditioned for a publishing deal but that was back in 2012 and at that time I was at the end of my ‘rapping phase’ which began at the age of 13. I believe I was I was picked up not only for my writing and performance skills but mainly for my youth energy..? …The deal was not signed but the advice of the back of the audition was ..‘Write me a number one hit record!’  as my music was not ‘radio worthy’ as yet.

This was great advice to me for the commercial industry requirements and it brought a more structured construct to my song writing and disciplines to composing however, I felt I had reached out so far and wide when it comes to my music preferences that everything I tried do was simply just that… only an effort of trying to do something.

Take Reach for the Skies for example; I performed this track acoustically at the interview for a place at CSM. At the time performing this track was a new height for me as an artist… Its my first full track of rapping and singing the chorus. Before hand I would just rap over instrumentals or sing along playing my favourite rock/pop song on the guitar. Although written only four years ago since then I’ve grown

I aim to produce some material for a portfolio career as a Songwriter and Record Producer. Unfortunately this released content is me in the middle of a transition and is rather off putting, Personally i think its a such a flop, Not quite here or there… The video does not capture the essence of how this song can really connect with people. When it is performed live its easy to catch on to the chorus and sing along to but the full production and break drums take away the songs potential. I can not finish this year the same!!

My acoustic guitar and the piano have become my go to instruemnts over the past three years on CSM, I feel my older values and opinions toward my music have changed, I’ve tried every face in the book and now I’ve been stripped back to just myself. Its for the best i know but I feel exposed.

Theres a few sides to my musical expressions. Outside of relevance to CSM theres

AphitZ who writes electronic music influenced by cinematic atmospheric glitch music, IDM, Drum and Bass & Techno.

Mr. Fitz who is the animated character that presents some of my more uplifting, playful or whimsical songs. (Artwork under development)

Aj-Fitz is the Rap & Songwriter who self produced a mixtape and now writes songs more often than anything at the moment
